I 100% agree. The extra layers of red tape added by the provincial government and the switch from voting tabulators to hand counting caused some confusion and very slow results. There needs to be better systems and better funding so they can get people voting and count the ballots faster. I hope that Elections Edmonton does a thorough review of why the process was so slow this time and City Council gives them the resources needed to make the process much smoother in 2029.
I think it would also be interesting to see if the delays introduced bias. I voted in an area with a lot of high rises and waited 40 minutes for the 8ish people ahead of me to be processed. I was already in the system, so I took only a minute. Were dense urban areas more heavily impacted by the changes? And those with more rentals?
