There were probably a lot of liberals and NDP who did not bother voting.

In any election in rural Alberta, there are a lot of Dippers and Liberals who don't bother to vote! I would vote myself, but otherwise I cannot say that I blame them. But I agree with Dave that the decline of the Liberal vote share in this bye-election was likely because of Bonnie Critchley. If I had been living in that riding (I wouldn't mind. Camrose and Drumheller would both be interesting places to live, especially Camrose - just give me a job there!) I would have voted for Critchley myself!

Fuck fuck fuck.

I was really hoping for some kind of miracle even though knowledgable people like you predicted this.

Oh well. I am a native person and expect better of people, society, governments, and even corporations and churches.

You wrote the following in your summation, " The Conservatives do so well in ridings like Battle River—Crowfoot not just because the people who live in the riding strongly self-identify as conservatives, but the Conservative Party spends a lot of time talking about the issues that matter to these voters and works hard in between elections to keep their organization strong.

Perhaps their local MP( the real one) did make much of local issues. I know our CPC MP make a lot of noise about how they support the area. Truth is I can not in recent memory remember one thing that she did for our constituency as a whole. Poilievre from anything I saw in that time has had one basic policy (AXE THE TAX) and like our Premier, everything wrong in the Universe is the fault of the Liberals ( they seem to have stopped naming Trudeau personally). It does not take a Ph. D. in political science to see that Alberta rural voters are no longer fiscal conservatives such as Bonney Critchley nor our former Peter Lougheed. They have been told for so long and so often that other parties do not care for them. They are socialists, wolves in sheep's clothing as it were, and they are genuinely led by the nose to the nearest trough of MAGA style koolaide they can find. I was hoping that at least a good number would vote on principle, but nope. They voted for Polievre to keep his residency at Stornaway, which is likely the main reason he wants back in.

To finish my rant, I am embarrassed by the performance of my fellow Albertans in this by-election for not showing any kind of moral backbone and turning on the guy they gave some 82 percent of the vote to a few months ago. My only hope is that with the CPC platform being essentially, ' We will not do what the Liberals do!' will lead the rest of the country to keep their level headed outlook and the CPC will lose yet again, nationally. It will be interesting to see what P.P. will whine about this fall, besides that the Liberals should just give in to Trump and sign a bad deal. Thank you for letting me rant.
